Where has the Time Gone?

Wow! Hard to believe an entire year has gone by without any new posts!  I feel horrible!!  This might lead one to believe I had a tough year. On the contrary, my school year was great! Wonderful students! In fact, near the end of May, one boy made an announcement, "You know, it's funny that all of the other classes have so much drama about boyfriends, girlfriends, hurting feelings, getting in fights. But our class? We have drama about who took whose pencil!!" And that pretty much summed up the year!!

I will try to upload my End of the Year slideshow for 2012-2013 so you can see various activities and projects we completed. Lots of good stuff!!!

The 2013-2014 school year is quickly coming upon us! I am probably one of the few that ever say this, but I am soooo ready to go back to work!!!  I have been ready since the last day of school!!  My friends think I am crazy, but I have so many projects going and ideas that I just want to get started! I will have quite a mix of students, as well as an interpreter, a co-teacher, and an inclusion teacher all in one classroom! So, lots in store for me!!!

I may be creating a new blog so that my students can have their own blog stemming from mine. Haven't quite sketched it out in my mind yet!!

Off to a new school year!!  Good luck!!!

Summer Time!!

Can you hear it? "Schooooools....out....for....summer"!!!! Or, did you ever chant this: "No more pencils! No more books! No more teachers dirty looks! When the teacher rings the bell, drop your books and run like h*ll!!  Well, I see summer time a bit differently now that I'm the teacher!!  I see summer time as a great opportunity to learn new things, create things for my classroom, and devise new project ideas!! This summer is no different than the last 17.  However, thanks to Pinterest, I am finding so many new ideas that it's hard to keep up!!  Gosh, so far, I've bought ID tags for vocabulary, folders for privacy barriers, new beach theme decorations, flip-flops for days of the week labels, pom-poms for erasers at the end of dry erase markers, bamboo place mats to display Essential Questions, binder to keep new curriculum ideas, etc.  I have started a page for Organization Ideas. I included my first project on this page so check it out under 'For Parents and Students'.  Gosh, so much to do and so little summer left!!  LOL!!!  Oh, and I'm learning about Flipping a Classroom!  Any recommendations? Yaaaa summer!!!!!!

My Classroom 2011-2012

Beach Theme!!  I found a cheap, simple way to have color in my classroom without the expense and pain of painting the walls.  I bought $1 plastic table covers in various vibrant colors and stapled/taped them to the walls. Viola!!! I also bought beach-themed decor to add more punch to the atmosphere!  In addition, I transformed particular areas of the room into subjects areas: Math Wall, Reading Wall, Language Arts Wall, Science & Social Studies Wall, and The Beach.

Mummies Almost Mummified!!

Hi everyone!  Our mummies are almost finished!!  We've been spending time re-seasoning until the stench finally disappeared!  Then, each group wrapped their chicken mummy in gauze and used a glue/water mixture to serve as a resin substance.  The students then captured the essence of ancient times when riches were buried with the bodies by adorning the mummies with gems and jewels.  Next, they decorated the 'sarcophagus ' (two paper bowls that will be stapled together) that will host their mummies for an eternity of lifetime. Currently, we are waiting for the mummies to totally dry before ceremonial burials!! More to come.....
